Daily letter deliveries will come to an end in Townsville and delivery times will be pushed out to at least seven days because of Scott Morrison’s Australia Post cuts.

This week in parliament, the Government locked in plans which will see deliveries in Townsville reduced to every two or three days.

Intrastate letters will now take a minimum of seven full days to arrive, up from a previous minimum of three business days.

Having mail delivered five days a week meant posties could deliver parcels everyday as well. Because of these service cuts, delivery timeframes for small to medium sized parcels could also be delayed.

Labor moved to disallow the Government’s changes but sadly the LNP was supported in the Senate vote by One Nation Senators Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts, locking in delayed delivery times for Townsville.

Queensland Labor Senator Nita Green said this was another example of the LNP and One Nation delivering cuts instead of promises to Regional Queensland.

“It’s up to the Government to explain why grandchildren in Townsville will have to wait longer to get a birthday card from their grandparents in nearby towns like Mackay or Cairns,” Senator Green said.

“LNP Herbert MP Phillip Thompson should tell small businesses across Townsville why it’s a good idea that their invoices will take longer to land in customers inboxes.”
